6th Winner For Freshman Sire Dane Shadow
Kitchwin Hills 1st-crop stallion Dane Shadow (Danehill-Slight Chance, by Centaine) recordfed his 6th Australian winner when 2YO filly Hurtle Myrtle (Dane Shadow-Ravenswood, by Woodman) snatched victory by a short-head over 1200m at Canterbury yesterday for trainer Matthew Smith. Hurtle Myrtle was a $55,000 yearling consigned by Kitchwin at the 2008 Inglis Classic Sale in Sydney. Dane Shadow (3rd on the 1st-season sires table by earnings, behind only Charge Forward & Fastnet Rock) is standing the 2009 season at Scone-based Kitchwin Hills for $16,500. Meanwhile the narrowly-defeated runner-up (after starting from a wide barrier) was fellow 2YO filly Little Surfer Girl (Encosta-De Lago-Special Harmony, by Spinning World) who sold for $1.5 million as a yearling at the 2008 Inglis Easter Sale in Sydney.
