Xaar Adds UK Gr2

Thursday, 30th July 2009

Also in the UK overnight, former WA Oakland Park shuttler Xaar (Zafonic-Monroe, by Sir Ivor) added juvenile group success when Irish-bred colt Xtension (Xaar-Great Joy, by Grand Lodge) scored a 1.25-lengths victory in the £80,000 (A$160,000) Gr2 Vintage Stakes (7 furlongs) for 2YOs at Goodwood. Favourite Xtension (ridden by Adam Kirby for trainer Clive Cox) defeated US-bred colt Mata Keranjang (More Than Ready-Love Sick, by Salt Lake) & fellow colt Corporal Maddox (Royal Applause-Noble View, by Distant View). Xtension was a €15,000 (A$26,000) yearling at the 2008 Tattersalls Ireland September Sale; last month, he also finished runner-up in the UK Gr2 Coventry Stakes (6 furlongs) at Royal Ascot.
