In the UK, Godolphin colt Mastery (Sulamani-Moyesii, by Diesis) scored a 0.75-length victory in the £500,000 (A$981,000) Gr1 St Leger Stakes (14.5 furlongs) for 3YOs at Doncaster. Mastery (ridden by Ted Durcan for trainer Saeed Bin Suroor) defeated favoured Irish-bred colt & stable-mate Kite Wood (Galileo-Kite Mark, by Mark Of Esteem) & fellow Irish-bred colt Monitor Closely (Oasis Dream-Independence, by Selkirk); Irish trainer Aidan O'Brien's Melbourne Cup contender Changingoftheguard finished 5th. Mastery took his record to 3 wins (also including May's Gr1 Derby Italiano over 2200m at the Capannelle) & 4 placings (including August's Gr2 Great Voltigeur Stakes over 12 furlongs at York, July's French Gr1 Grand Prix De Paris over 2400m at Longchamp & June's UK Gr3 Queen's Vase over 16 furlongs at Royal Ascot) from 8 starts for £779,820 (A$1.529m) earnings.
