Monday, 28th September 2009

In the UK overnight, Darley shuttler & 2008 European Champion 1st-season sire Kheleyf (Green Desert-Society Lady, by Mr Prospector) added a group success when Irish-bred 3YO colt Sayif (Kheleyf-Sewards Folly, by Rudimentary) scored a 2.5-lengths victory over his older rivals in the £100,000 (A$193,000) Gr2 Diadem Stakes (6 furlongs) at Ascot. Sayif (ridden by Richard Hills for trainer Peter Chapple-Hyam) defeated US-bred 6YO gelding Tamagin (Stravinsky-Luia, by Forty Niner) & 4YO mare Mullein (Oasis Dream-Gipsy Moth, by Efisio). As a juvenile last year, Sayif notched placings in each of the UK Gr1 Shadwell Middle Park Stakes (6 furlongs) at Newmarket, Gr2 July Stakes (6 furlongs) at Newmarket, Gr2 Vintage Stakes (7 furlongs) at Goodwood & Gr2 Mill Reef Stakes (6 furlongs) at Newbury. Overall he now has 2 wins & 5 placings from 11 starts.
