Thursday, 1st October 2009

Victorian Racing Minister Rob Hulls told the media at yesterday's launch of the Spring Racing Carnival that it is up to Racing Victoria to decide whether to allow Chechen president Ramzan Kadyrov's horses Mourilyan & Bankable to compete in upcoming Melbourne feature races. Hulls noted: "They will take into account a whole range of things, but I've made it quite clear the government will not interfere with any decision that they make & in fact the government will support any decision they make." Greens leader Senator Bob Brown recently described Kadyrov as a "blood-soaked dictator" & declared: "If this nasty character were to get his hands on the Melbourne Cup, it would be the lowest point in Australia's sporting history."
