Wife Of Tas Trainer Blacker Dies In Samoa Tsunami

Thursday, 1st October 2009

Leading Tasmanian trainer John Blacker's wife Maree was killed in yesterday's Samoa tsunami, reported The Sydney Morning Herald. The Longford-based couple was celebrating Maree's 50th birthday in Samoa & John has been admitted to hospital "with a broken jaw, broken ribs & lacerations". A family friend told the newspaper: "Maree worked in the stable for years; John was the trainer & she knew more about the breeding side of racing & they worked alongside each other. She used to place horses in different races, decide which race they should go in; she always had her say, she knew her horses."
