Meanwhile globe-trotting Australian-bred 6YO gelding War Artist (ridden by Olivier Peslier for trainer James Eustace) continued his great season with his 3rd-placing behind Total Gallery. At his 2 previous starts, he won September's French Gr3 Prix Du Petit Couvert (1000m) at Longchamp & August's German Gr2 Goldene Peitsche (1200m) at Baden-Baden. Last year War Artist (a $57,500 yearling consigned by Attunga Stud at the 2005 Magic Millions January Gold Coast Sale) notched European placings in the UK Gr1 July Cup (6 furlongs) at Newmarket, Gr1 Golden Jubilee Stakes (6 furlongs) at Royal Ascot, Gr2 Duke Of York Stakes (6 furlongs) at York & Listed Lady Wulfruna Stakes (7 furlongs) at Wolverhampton. And during 2007 he won South Africa's Gr1 Mercury Sprint (1200m) at Clairwood, as well as finishing 2nd in both the Gr1 Golden Horse Sprint (1200m) at Scottsville & Gr3 Byerley Turk Plate (1400m) at Scottsville. Overall he now has 6 wins & 7 placings from 16 starts.
