Tuesday, 6th October 2009

On the Australian track over the holiday long weekend in NSW, ACT & South Australia, NZ Cambridge Stud-based multiple champion sire Zabeel (Sir Tristram-Lady Giselle, by Nureyev) added a Gr1 triumph when 2007 Melbourne Cup winner & now 6YO gelding Efficient (Zabeel-Refused The Dance, by Defensive Play) motored home from the tail of the field to snatch victory by a half-head in the $500,000 Gr1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) for 4YOs & up at Flemington in Melbourne. Efficient (ridden by Nicholas Hall for trainer John Sadler) defeated 4YO entire Predatory Pricer (Street Cry-Shady Stream, by Archregent) & 7YO gelding Scenic Shot (Scenic-Sweepshot, by Dr Grace). Efficient (a NZ$220,000 yearling at the 2005 NZ Bloodstock Premier Sale at Karaka) now has 7 wins (also including 2007's Gr1 Melbourne Cup over 3200m at Flemington, plus 2006's Gr1 Victoria Derby over 2500m at Flemington & Gr2 AAMI Vase on 2040m at Moonee Valley) from 20 starts for $4,553,525 earnings.
