Miss Marielle Wins Craven Plate

Coolmore stallion & Australian champion sire of the last 2 seasons Encosta de Lago (Fairy King-Shoal Creek, by Star Way) added a group success when 5YO mare Miss Marielle (Encosta De Lago-Miss Vandal, by Don't Say Halo) scored her 2nd successive stakes victory in a fortnight with a 1.75-lengths win in the $125,000 weight-for-age Gr3 Craven Plate (2000m) at Randwick. Miss Marielle (ridden by Peter Robl for trainer Joseph Pride) defeated favoured 5YO entire Nom Du Jeu (Montjeu-Prized Gem, by Prized) & 7YO gelding Fulmonti (Montjeu-Grosvenor's Pride, by Grosvenor). Miss Marielle (originally a $330,000 yearling at the 2006 Inglis Easter Sale in Sydney & resold at this year's Inglis Easter Broodmare Sale in Sydney in April for $240,000) now has 6 wins (also including last start's Gr2 Hill Stakes over 1900m at Rosehill on September 19, plus 2007's Listed Star Track Express Stakes over 1800m at Flemington & Listed Arrow Training Services Stakes over 1600m at Moonee Valley) & 4 placings (including September's Gr2 Chelmsford Stakes over 1600m at Randwick & August's Listed Toy Show Quality over 1400m at Randwick, plus 2008's Gr2 Hollylodge Thoroughbreds Classic over 1500m at Moonee Valley) from 20 starts for $533,700 earnings.
