Pure Clan Wins US Gr1 Flower Bowl Stakes

The 4YO mare Pure Clan (Pure Prize-Gather The Clan, by General Assembly) scored a 2.75-lengths victory in the US$600,000 Gr1 Flower Bowl Invitational Stakes (10 furlongs on turf) for fillies & mares at Belmont Park. Pure Clan (ridden by Julien Leparoux for trainer Robert Holthus) defeated UK-bred 5YO mare Criticism (Machiavellian-Innuendo, by Caerleon) & fellow 4YO mare Queen Of Hearts (Thunder Gulch-Betrayer, by Fain). Pure Clan took her record to 8 wins (also including July's Gr3 Modesty Handicap over 9.5 furlongs at Arlington Park, plus 2008's Gr1 American Oaks Invitational over 10 furlongs at Hollywood Park & Gr3 Regret Stakes over 9 furlongs at Churchill Downs, as well as both 2007's Gr2 Golden Rod Stakes over 8.5 furlongs at Churchill Downs & Listed Pocahontas Stakes over 8 furlongs at Churchill Downs) & 6 placings (including August's Gr1 Beverly D Stakes over 9.5 furlongs at Arlington Park & June's Early Times Mint Julep Handicap over 8.5 furlongs at Churchill Downs, plus 2008's Gr1 Garden City Breeders' Cup Stakes over 9 furlongs at Belmont Park, Gr1 Kentucky Oaks over 9 furlongs at Churchill Downs, Gr2 Fantasy Stakes over 8.5 furlongs at Oaklawn Park & Gr3 Honeybee Stakes over 8.5 furlongs at Oaklawn Park) from 15 starts for US$1,627,498 earnings.
