Tuesday, 6th October 2009

Dual-Derby winning Coolmore sire & former NZ Windsor Park shuttler Montjeu (Sadler's Wells-Floripedes, by Top Ville) added a Gr1 triumph when 6YO gelding Speed Gifted (Montjeu-Good Standing, by Distant View) scored a 3.25-lengths victory in the $350,000 Gr1 Metropolitan Handicap (2400m) at Randwick. Speed Gifted (ridden by Corey Brown for trainer Lee Freedman) defeated 7YO gelding Lodge The Deeds (Grand Lodge-Admit Anywhere, by Zabeel) & top-weighted 6YO gelding Fiumicino (Zabeel-Latte, by Maroof). Speed Gifted was a 95,000 guineas (A$195,000) yearling at the 2005 UK Tattersalls October Sale; he now has 5 wins & 2 placings (in 2008's UK Listed Godolphin Stakes over 12 furlongs at Newmarket & UK Listed Tapster Stakes over 12 furlongs at Goodwood) from 12 starts for $409,500 earnings.
