Vic Govt Seeks Racing Integrity Commissioner

Tuesday, 6th October 2009

The Victorian Government is advertising for a Racing Integrity Commissioner to provide " independent oversight of the industry", following last year's report from retired judge Gordon Lewis which found "rampant criminal activity within the racing industry" & recommended major reforms. Legislation to establish the RIC role was passed by parliament last month & Victorian Racing Minister Rob Hulls noted: "The Racing Integrity Commissioner will be a position of great responsibility. It involves monitoring & providing advice on integrity issues, policies & practices across Victoria's racing codes." Hulls emphasised the successful applicant will "work closely with regulatory bodies such as the Victorian Commission for Gambling Regulation, as well as the Victorian & Federal Police".
