Zahra Nearly Falls In Severe Check To Scenic Blast
Australian jockey Mark Zahra "felt as if the stuffing had been knocked out of him, after a Japanese jockey delivered an unsuspecting knock-out blow" in the Sprinters Stakes at Nakayama, reported The Herald-Sun. Zahra said Scenic Blast was "travelling sweetly", before a rival came out "under his neck" & Scenic Blast "went down on his nose & the severe check effectively put him out of the race". Zahra added: "He felt okay when I cantered him back (to scale after the race), but I wouldn't be surprised when he cooled down that he's feeling it. He was lucky not to fall. He went down on his nose. It was pretty much all over after that." Zahra said stewards told him the offending jockey "may face disciplinary action" & "I just told them, well, that's not going to help me too much! I was where I wanted to be. He was relaxed, I was about to go forward at the right time in the race & then he got the stuffing knocked out of him."
