US Gr2-winner Grazen Retired To Stud

Thursday, 8th October 2009

US graded stakes-winning 3YO colt Grazen (Benchmark-Hazen, by Rubiano) who was pulled up as favourite when he suffered a tendon injury to his right leg while leading the field into the straight in Saturday's California Cup Classic Handicap, has been retired from racing. Trainer Mike Mitchell confirmed: "He is retired & thank God we didn't have to put him down. Hopefully there'll be a little spot for him as a stallion in California." Grazen began this season with 3 straight victories & overall recorded 4 wins (including June's Gr3 Affirmed Handicap over 8.5 furlongs at Hollywood Park, July's Gr2 Swap Stakes over 9 furlongs at Hollywood Park & September's Listed El Cajon Stakes over 8 furlongs at Del Mar) & a placing from 7 starts for US$245,400 earnings.
