US Gr1-Winning Sire Deputy Commander Euthanased

US Gr1-winning 15-year-old stallion Deputy Commander (Deputy Minister-Anka Germania, by Malinowski) has been euthanased "because of a decline in the quality of his life" reported thoroughbredtimes.com. On the track, Deputy Commander (who stood his final season for US$7,500 in 2008 at Ballena Vista Farm in California) recorded 4 wins from 13 starts (including 1997's Gr1 Travers Stakes, Gr1 Super Derby & Gr3 Affirmed Handicap, plus runner-up in the Gr1 Breeders' Cup Classic) for US$1,906,640 earnings. He began his stud career in 1999 at Airdrie Stud in Kentucky & spent 8 seasons there before moving to Ballena Vista in 2007.  From 9 crops of racing age, Deputy Commander has sired 291 winners (23 stakes-winners, including Gr1-winner Ten Most Wanted, Gr2-winner Deputy Glitters & Saudi Arabian champion 3YO filly & older female Jomaanah) from 432 starters which have earned US$25,288,313.
