Giant's Causeway Adds US Gr2

Former Coolmore shuttler Giant's Causeway (Storm Cat-Mariah's Storm, by Rahy) added a US graded stakes success when Stonerside Stable home-bred 4YO entire Cowboy Cal (Giant's Causeway-Texas Tammy, by Seeking The Gold) scored a 0.75-length victory in the US$150,000 Gr2 Oak Tree Mile Stakes (8 furlongs on turf) at Santa Anita. Cowboy Cal (ridden by Garrett Gomez for trainer Todd Pletcher) defeated Argentine-bred 6YO entire Global Hunter (Jade Hunter-Griffe De Paris, by Telescopico) & Irish-bred 5YO entire Whatsthescript (Royal Applause-Grizel, by Lion Cavern). Cowboy Cal took his record to 7 wins (also including February's Gr2 Strub Stakes over 9 furlongs at Santa Anita & January's Gr2 San Pasqual Handicap over 8.5 furlongs at Santa Anita, plus 2008's Gr3 Bryan Station Stakes over 8 furlongs at Keeneland & Gr3 Tropical Park Derby over 9 furlongs at Calder, as well as 2007's Listed Laurel Futurity over 8.5 furlongs at Laurel Park) & 6 placings (including both August's Gr2 Bernard Baruch Handicap over 9 furlongs at Saratoga & Gr2 Fourstardave Handicap over 8.5 furlongs at Saratoga, plus May's Gr1 Woodford Reserve Turf Classic Stakes over 9 furlongs at Churchill Downs, as well as 2008's Gr1 Toyota Blue Grass Stakes over 9 furlongs, Gr1 Hollywood Derby over 10 furlongs at Hollywood Park & Listed Hallandale Beach Stakes over 8.5 furlongs) from 17 starts for US$1,001,810 earnings.
