Monday, 12th October 2009

On the Australian track, Coolmore shuttler & former star Australian sprinter Choisir (Danehill Dancer-Great Selection, by Lunchtime) added a Gr1 triumph when front-running colt Starspangledbanner (Choisir-Gold Anthem, by Made Of Gold) made it 4 wins from his last 5 starts by leading all-the-way for a 2.75-lengths victory in the $1 million Gr1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) for 3YOs at Caulfield in Melbourne. Starspangledbanner (ridden by Dan Nikolic for trainer Leon Corstens) defeated fellow colts Carrara (Elvstroem-Crystal Sprite, by Hurricane Sky) & Manhattan Rain (Encosta De Lago-Shantha's Choice, by Canny Lad). Starspangledbanner (a $120,000 yearling at the 2008 Inglis Premier Sale in Melbourne) now has 5 wins (also including both August's Gr3 McNeil Stakes over 1200m at Caulfield & Listed Vain Stakes over 1100m at Caulfield, plus 2008's Inglis Juvenile over 1000m at Moonee Valley) & 2 placings (including February's Gr3 Arrowfield Stud Blue Diamond Prelude over 1100m at Caulfield) from 9 starts for $1,029,075 earnings.
