Zenyatta Wins US Gr1 Lady's Secret Stakes

In the US, former Darley shuttler & Gr1 Dubai World Cup winner Street Cry (Machiavellian-Helen Street, by Troy) added a Gr1 triumph when undefeated 5YO mare & 2008 US Champion Older Female Zenyatta (Street Cry-Vertigineux, by Kris S) notched her 13th successive victory (& equalled Personal Ensign's 13-race winning streak) with a 1.25-lengths margin in the US$300,000 Gr1 Lady's Secret Stakes (8.5 furlongs on all-weather) for fillies & mares at Santa Anita Park in California, to win this race for the 2nd successive year. Favourite Zenyatta (ridden by Mike Smith for trainer John Shirreffs) defeated 4YO mare Lethal Heat (Unusual Heat-Lethal Leta, by Synastry) & Godolphin's Chilean-bred fellow 5YO mare Cocoa Beach (Doneraile Court-Visionera, by Edgy Diplomat). At her previous 3 starts this year, Zenyatta won August's Gr1 Clement Hirsch Stakes (8.5 furlongs) at Del Mar for the 2nd successive year, June's Gr1 Vanity Breeders' Cup Handicap (9 furlongs) at Hollywood Park for the 2nd successive year & May's Gr2 Milady Handicap (8.5 furlongs) at Hollywood Park for the 2nd successive year. Kentucky-bred Zenyatta (a US$60,000 yearling at Keeneland in September 2005) is a half-sister to multiple Gr1-winner Balance & was unraced as a juvenile. Overall she now boasts 13 wins (also including 2008's Gr1 Breeders' Cup Ladies' Classic over 9 furlongs at Santa Anita, Gr1 Apple Blossom Handicap over 8.5 furlongs at Oaklawn Park & Gr2 El Encino Stakes over 8.5 furlongs at Santa Anita) from 13 starts for US$2,774,580 earnings.
