Irish Lights Wins Gr1 Thousand Guineas

Thursday, 15th October 2009

In Australia, Gr1-winning Coolmore stallion Fastnet Rock (Danehill-Piccadilly Circus, by Royal Academy) added a Gr1 triumph when favoured daughter Irish Lights (Fastnet Rock-Aspen Falls, by Hennessy) made it 3 successive wins since returning from a 28-weeks spell when she gained the judge's verdict in a 3-way photo-finish to yesterday's $500,000 Gr1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) for 3YO fillies at Caulfield in Melbourne. Irish Lights (ridden by Glen Boss for trainer David Hayes) scored by a long-neck from Melito (Redoute's Choice-Cloister, by Marauding) with a further short-neck to Faint Perfume (Shamardal-Zona, by Zabeel). Irish Lights (a $230,000 yearling at the 2008 Inglis Easter Sale in Sydney) now has 3 wins (also including last start's Gr3 Thousand Guineas Prelude over 1400m at Caulfield on September 19) & a runner-up (in January's Listed Blue Diamond Preview over 1000m at Caulfield) from 5 starts for $441,500 earnings.
