UK Tatts Book 2 Final Gross Up 5%
Overall during the 3-day Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 2, 606 lots sold for 20,565,500 guineas (A$39.074m) which was up 5% on last year. The final average of 33,936 guineas (A$64,500) was down 12.2% & the final median of 25,000 guineas (A$47,500) was down 13.8%. The clearance rate was 83% (last year 71%) & Tattersalls chairman Edmond Mahony summed up: "We were delighted with the trade at Book 1 last week & it has been equally pleasing to see it mirrored over the 3 days of Book 2. It seems extraordinary to be able to reflect on Books 1 & 2 in such positive terms, bearing in mind the continuing economic uncertainties, but the strength of both sales has been remarkable. The quality of the yearlings has been a key factor & the major buyers who made last week such a success have again been active at the top of the Book 2 market. The sustained demand at all levels & a clearance rate in excess of 80% have been further positive aspects to take out of the sale. Another feature of both Books 1 & 2 has been the success enjoyed by so many of the foal buyers. Profitable pin-hooking is always an indication of a robust market."
