US Champ Theatrical Pensioned From Stud Duty
In the US, Hill 'n' Dale Farms announced champion & leading sire Theatrical (Nureyev-Tree Of Knowledge, by Sassafras) has been pensioned from stud duty at age 27 "due to the infirmities of old age coupled with declining fertility," reported bloodhorse.com. On the track, Irish-bred Theatrical recorded 10 wins (6 US Gr1 victories in 1987 alone) from 22 starts (in Europe & the US) for US$2,940,036 earnings. He began his stud career at Brookside Farm in Kentucky & moved to Hill 'n' Dale Farm in 2001. Theatrical boasts 81 stakes-winners, including 3-time Japanese champion Hishi Amazon, Irish champion 3YO male Zagreb, Irish champion filly Theoretically, French classic winner Madeleine's Dream & 2002 Melbourne Cup winner Media Puzzle, plus Gr1 winners Astra, Auntie Mame, Broadway Flyer, Dahlia's Dreamer, Duda, Geri, Golden Treat, Marchand de Sable, Mrs Lindsay, Pharma, Portland Player, Royal Anthem, Run Man Run, Shakespeare, Startac, Vaudeville & Winchester. In addition, his yearlings have sold up to US$4 million & his daughters have produced the earners of more than US$55 million & 50 stakes-winners (including multiple Gr1-winner & 2007 turf champion male English Channel).
