Beethoven Wins UK Gr1 Dewhurst Stakes

Monday, 19th October 2009

Also in the UK, Coolmore shuttler & triple European Gr1-winning 7YO freshman sire Oratorio (Danehill-Mahrah, by Vaguely Noble) added a juvenile Gr1 quinella when Irish-bred colt Beethoven (Oratorio-Queen Titi, by Sadler's Wells) gained the judge's verdict in a 4-way photo-finish to the £300,000 (A$545,000) Gr1 Dewhurst Stakes (7 furlongs) for 2YOs at Newmarket. Beethoven (ridden by Ryan Moore for trainer Aidan O'Brien) scored by a neck from fellow colt & stable-mate Fencing Master (Oratorio-Moonlight Dance, by Alysheba) with a further nose to Irish-bred colt Xtension (Xaar-Great Joy, by Grand Lodge). Beethoven was a €260,000 (A$442,000) yearling at the 2008 Goffs Million Sale; overall he now has 2 wins & 3 placings (including last start's Irish Gr1 National Stakes over 7 furlongs at The Curragh on September 12 & July's Gr3 Anglesey Stakes over 6 furlongs at The Curragh) from 10 starts for £295,122 (A$536,000) earnings.
