Lahaleeb Wins Canada Gr1 E.P.Taylor Stakes
Also in Canada, Irish-bred 3YO filly Lahaleeb (Redback-Flames, by Blushing Flame) scored a 1.75-lengths victory against older rivals in the C$1 million Gr1 E.P.Taylor Stakes (10 furlongs on turf) for fillies & mares at Woodbine to "produce the biggest upset in the 54-year history of the race, when she came from off the pace in the stretch to win at odds of 44-1" reported bloodhorse.com. Lahaleeb (ridden by William Buick for trainer Mick Channon) defeated US-bred fellow 3YO filly Rainbow View (Dynaformer-No Matter What, by Nureyev) & US-bred 4YO mare Princess Haya (Street Cry-Sally Slew, by Slew City Slew). Lahaleeb was a €40,000 (A$68,000) weanling at the Ireland's 2006 Goffs November Sale & later a 70,000 guineas (A$133,000) yearling at the 2007 UK Tattersalls October Sale. Overall she now has 5 wins (also including April's UK Gr3 Fred Darling Stakes over 7 furlongs at Newbury, plus 2008's UK Gr2 Rockfel Stakes over 7 furlongs at Newmarket) & 3 placings (including runners-up in both May's Gr1 Irish 1000 Guineas over 8 furlongs at The Curragh & 2008's Irish Gr3 C.L.Weld Stakes over 7 furlongs at The Curragh, plus 3rd in 2008's UK Gr2 May Hill Stakes over 8 furlongs at Doncaster) from 16 starts for US$888,157 earnings.
