Okawango Adds UK Gr3

Monday, 19th October 2009

Former Lynden Park & then Foxes Hollow shuttler Okawango (Kingmambo-Krissante, by Kris) added a UK group success when US-bred 4YO entire Steele Tango (Okawango-Waltzing Around, by Ela-mana-mou) scored by a head in the £65,000 (A$118,000) Gr3 Darley Stakes (9 furlongs) at Newmarket. Steele Tango (ridden by Liam Keniry for trainer Roger Teal) defeated Irish-bred 3YO colt Glass Harmonium (Verglas-Spring Symphony, by Darshaan) & US-bred 3YO colt Palavicini (Giant's Causeway-Cara Fantasy, by Sadler's Wells). Steele Tango was originally a US$12,000 weanling at the 2005 Keeneland November Sale, then a US$12,000 yearling at the 2006 Keeneland September Sale & finally a 30,000 guineas (A$57,000) 2YO at the 2007 UK Tattersalls April Sale. Overall he now has 3 wins & 5 placings (including both April's Gr3 Earl Of Sefton Stakes over 9 furlongs at Newmarket & May's Listed Buckhounds Stakes over 12 furlongs at Ascot) from 16 starts for £109,045 (A$198,000) earnings.
