Arqana Yearlings Day-2: $272k Shamardal Colt

Wednesday, 21st October 2009

BBA Ireland's Michael Donohoe (acting for pin-hooker Willie Browne) paid top price of €170,000 (A$272,000) for a colt by European champion 4-time Gr1-winning Darley shuttler & northern hemisphere freshman stallion Shamardal (the 10th foal out of Funambule mare Banakill) during the middle session overnight at France's 3-day Arqana October Yearling Sale at Deauville. The colt (consigned from Haras de Grandcamp) is a half-brother to both Gr1 Hollywood Derby runner-up Obrigado & Gr3-winner Coupe de Champe. Donohoe told racingpost.com: "Willie Browne really liked the horse & his pedigree. He's been bought to resell, but Willie isn't sure whether he'll go to the Craven Sale at Newmarket or to Arqana's Saint-Cloud sale - he's registered for the French premiums which is vital if you're going to resell in France."
