Leica Ding Wins Geelong Cup

Thursday, 22nd October 2009

Ill-fated Gr1 Victoria Derby-winning former Larneuk Stud sire Redding (Nassipour-Leica Jewel, by Best Western) added a group success when 5YO mare Leica Ding (Redding-Leica Mine, by Belong To Me) motored home down the centre of the track to snatch a last-stride victory in a 3-way photo-finish to yesterday's $200,000 Gr3 Geelong Cup (2406m) in Victoria. Leica Ding (ridden by Dan Nikolic for trainer Darren Weir) scored by a long-neck from 6YO gelding Dandaad (Istidaad-Lets Dance, by Dance Floor) with a further short-head to favoured fellow 6YO gelding Sterling Prince (Colombia-Sterling Princess, by One Pound Sterling). Leica Ding took her record to 6 wins & 5 placings from 17 starts for $267,615 earnings. (Click on the link for full race details from Group Race Results at AAP Racing.)
