HK Increases Simulcast Of Aust Racing

Friday, 23rd October 2009

The export of Australian racing to Hong Kong “has been significantly expanded” with Tabcorp announcing the Hong Kong Jockey Club “will increase the simulcast of Australian racing”. Commencing with 5 races from Saturday’s Cox Plate meeting, Hong Kong will simulcast a number of additional races from Australia which will be broadcast & wagered on at Happy Valley and Sha Tin, as well as off-course betting branches. The simulcasts planned for the remainder of this year are: Cox Plate meeting (Moonee Valley 24 October); Victoria Derby meeting (Flemington 31 October); & Patinack Farm Classic on Emirates Stakes day (Flemington 7 November). Tabcorp managing director of wagering Robert Nason noted: “HK’s betting turnover on a per-race or per-capita basis is the highest in the world, making this a very significant announcement for Australian racing. Tabcorp, through our racing broadcaster Sky Racing, is pleased to have secured this deal, which will deliver significant benefits to the Australian race clubs, as they receive a percentage of every dollar bet on Australian racing in HK. The deal puts the Cox Plate & Victoria Derby up there with the likes of the Breeders’ Cup, Belmont Stakes, Prix de L’arc de Triomphe & Japan Cup, which are among the select international meetings simulcast into HK.”
