Leica Ding 0.5kg Penalty For Melb Cup
Racing Victoria chief handicapper Greg Carpenter announced a 0.5kg weight penalty for 5YO mare Leica Ding (Redding-Leica Mine, by Belong To Me) in the Gr1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) following her win in the Gr3 Geelong Cup (2406m) on Wednesday. The penalty takes the Darren Weir-trained mare to 50.5kg in the Melbourne Cup and lifts her from 67th to 31st in the order-of-entry. Carpenter noted: “The Geelong Cup was a genuinely run race on quick ground & Leica Ding gave a strong staying performance to beat a very competitive field. In recent years, the Geelong Cup has proven a strong form race with last year’s winner Bauer going on to finish a narrow 2nd to Viewed in the Melbourne Cup. Bauer was penalised 1kg for his win at Geelong & moved to 32nd in the elimination order following the win.” Meanwhile Geelong Cup runner-up & Bart Cummings-trained 6YO gelding Dandaad (Istidaad-Lets Dance, by Dance Floor) has passed the ballot requirement for the Melbourne Cup & moved from 66th to 54th in the order-of-entry.
