Avenue Wins 1300 Australia Stakes

Monday, 26th October 2009

Former Widden Stud shuttler Anabaa (Danzig-Balbonella, by Gay Mecene) added a group success when favoured daughter Avenue (Anabaa-Virage, by Kenmare) made it 3 successive stakes-wins in a month with a half-length victory over her male rivals in the $150,000 Gr3 1300 Australia Stakes (1200m) for 3YOs at Moonee Valley. Avenue (ridden by Luke Nolen for trainer Peter Moody) defeated the colt Governance (Flying Spur-Nahayan, by Zabeel) & top-weighted gelding Broken (Halo Homewrecker-Induct, by Spartacus). Avenue (a full-sister to $3.4 million Inglis broodmare Virage De Fortune) now has 4 wins (also including both the Gr3 Thoroughbred Club Stakes over 1200m at Caulfield on October 10 & September's Gr3 TBV/Eliza Park Champagne Stakes over 1200m at Moonee Valley) & a runner-up from 5 starts for $347,113 earnings.
