Big River Wins NZ Wellesley Stakes

Monday, 26th October 2009

Ill-fated dual Gr1-winning former Widden Stud stallion General Nediym (Nediym-Military Belle, by Without Fear) added a juvenile black-type success when unbeaten colt Big River (General Nediym-Zoilus, by Maroof) scored a 2.5-lengths victory in the NZ$45,000 Listed Wellesley Stakes (1000m) for 2YOs at Trentham. Favourite Big River (ridden by James McDonald for trainer Mark Walker) defeated the filly Elle Tresor (Le Bec Fin-Spot Of Luck, by Strike Diamonds) & gelding Botafogo (Keeninsky-Oregon Express, by Oregon). Big River (a NZ$150,000 yearling consigned by Whakanui Stud at the 2009 NZ Bloodstock Premier Sale at Karaka) now has 2 wins from 2 starts for NZ$29,875 earnings.
