Nom Du Jeu Retired After Cox Plate Failure

Trainer Murray Baker announced 2008 Gr1 AJC Australian Derby winner & last season's champion NZ stayer Nom Du Jeu (Montjeu-Prized Gem, by Prized) has been retired after finishing last of the 13 runners in the Gr1 Cox Plate. Now 5YO entire Nom Du Jeu has battled a continuing cannon bone injury this year & Baker summed up: "He just hasn't been settling in his races this season & has been racing below his best." Jockey Michael Rodd declared his Cox Plate run "shocking" & noted: "He just pulled the whole way round." Overall Nom Du Jeu recorded 4 wins (including 2008's Gr1 AJC Australian Derby over 2400m at Randwick & NZ's Gr3 Waikato Guineas over 2000m at Te Rapa) & 9 placings (including the Gr3 Craven Plate over 2000m at Randwick on October 3 & September's NZ Listed Westbury Stud Karaka Classic over 1600m at Pukekohe Park, plus 2008's Gr1 Caulfield Cup over 2400m, NZ Gr1 Kelt Capital Stakes over 2040m at Hastings, NZ Gr1 Stoney Bridge Stakes over 1600m at Hastings, Gr1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes over 2000m at Randwick & NZ Gr3 Manawatu Classic over 2000m at Awapuni) from 23 starts for $1,988,488 earnings.
