Monday, 26th October 2009

Coolmore's European champion & former NZ Cambridge Stud shuttler One Cool Cat (Storm Cat-Tacha, by Mr Prospector) also added a UK juvenile black-type success when Irish-bred gelding Layla's Hero (One Cool Cat-Capua, by Private Terms) gained the judge's decision in a 3-way photo-finish to the £35,000 (A$63,000) Listed Doncaster Stakes (6 furlongs) for 2YOs at Doncaster. Layla's Hero (ridden by Eddie Ahern for trainer David Nicholls) scored by a head from Irish-bred colt Singeur (Chineur-Singitta, by Singspiel) with a further neck to US-bred colt Citrus Star (Broken Vow-Twist A Lime, by Copelan). Layla's Hero was a £9,000 (A$16,200) yearling at the 2008 Doncaster August Sale. At his previous start, Layla's Hero also won the UK Listed Rockingham Stakes (6 furlongs) at York on October 10; overall he now has 5 wins & a runner-up from 8 starts for £73,882 (A$133,000) earnings.
