Monday, 26th October 2009

In the UK, dual-Derby winning Coolmore sire & former NZ Windsor Park shuttler Montjeu (Sadler's Wells-Floripedes, by Top Ville) added a juvenile Gr1 triumph when Ballydoyle's undefeated Irish-bred colt St Nicholas Abbey (Montjeu-Leaping Water, by Sure Blade) raced away for a 3.75-lengths victory in the £200,000 (A$360,000) Gr1 Racing Post Trophy (8 furlongs) for 2YOs at Doncaster. Favourite St Nicholas Abbey (ridden by Johnny Murtagh for trainer Aidan O'Brien) defeated US-bred colts Elusive Pimpernel (Elusive Quality-Cara Fantasy, by Sadler's Wells) & Godolphin's Al Zir (Medaglia D'Oro-Bayou Plans, by Bayou Hebert). St Nicholas Abbey was a 200,000 guineas (A$370,000) yearling at the 2008 UK Tattersalls October Sale. At his previous start, St Nicholas Abbey also won Ireland's Gr2 Beresford Stakes (8 furlongs) at The Curragh & overall now has 3 wins from 3 starts for £197,853 (A$356,000) earnings.
