Zabeel Adds HK Gr3

Monday, 26th October 2009

NZ Cambridge Stud's multiple champion sire Zabeel (Sir Tristram-Lady Giselle, by Nureyev) added a HK group success when 7YO gelding Packing Winner (Zabeel-Musical Note, by Marscay) caused a boilover by returning from a 5-months spell & leading all-the-way to score a half-length victory at odds of 160-1 in yesterday's HK$2.3 million (A$340,000) Gr3 Mission Hills Sha Tin Trophy (1600m) at Sha Tin. Packing Winner (ridden by Brett Doyle for trainer Peter Ho) defeated stable-mate 4YO colt Mr Medici (Medicean-Way For Life, by Platini) & 5YO gelding Thumbs Up (Shinko King-Regelle, by Exploding Prospect). Packing Winner (a NZ$300,000 yearling at the 2004 NZ Bloodstock Premier Sale at Karaka) took his record to 7 wins (also including 2008's Gr1 Citi Champions & Chater Cup over 2400m) & 3 runners-up (in February's Gr1 Citi Hong Kong Gold Cup over 2000m & 2007's Gr2 International Cup Trial over 2000m) from 24 starts for over HK$13 million (A$1.9m) earnings.
