Dark Target Dies After Perth Gr3 Failure

Gr3-winning 5YO gelded sprinter Dark Target (Danetime-Accuracy, by Protos) collapsed & died from a suspected heart attack, while leaving the mounting yard after finishing last of the 10 runners (despite starting favourite) in Saturday's Gr3 Prince Of Wales Stakes (1200m) at Ascot in Perth. Dark Target (who had won 2008's running of the same Gr3 Prince Of Wales Stakes) recorded 8 wins (also including 2007's Listed Rosemount-Fairetha Stakes over 1400m at Ascot) & 7 placings (including 2008's Listed Crawford Stakes over 1000m at Ascot & Listed Belmont Newmarket over 1200m at Belmont Park, plus 2007's Gr2 Winterbottom Stakes over 1200m at Ascot & Listed Summer Scorcher Handicap over 1000m at Ascot) from 19 starts for $396,950 earnings.
