Katie Lee Wins NZ Sarten Memorial Stakes

Tuesday, 27th October 2009

In New Zealand yesterday, Waikato Stud's Australian-bred stallion Pins (Snippets-No Finer, by Kaoru Star) added a black-type success when Australian-bred filly Katie Lee (Pins-Miss Jessie Jay, by Spectacularphantom) scored a 2-lengths victory over her male rivals in the NZ$45,000 Listed James & Annie Sarten Memorial Stakes (1400m) for 3YOs at Te Rapa. Katie Lee (ridden by Opie Bosson for trainers Graeme & Debbie Rogerson) defeated front-running gelding Finderskeepers (Keeper-Join The Fun, by Rory's Jester) & the colt Warrentherooster (Savabeel-Florida, by Pompeii Court). Katie Lee (a NZ$340,000 yearling consigned from Hallmark Stud at the 2008 NZ Bloodstock Premier Sale at Karaka) took her record to 3 wins (also including January's Gr3 Eclipse Stakes over 1200m at Ellerslie) & 4 placings (including September's Gr3 Gold Trail Stakes over 1200m at Hastings, plus both 2008's Listed Fairview Ford Stakes over 1100m at Te Rapa & Listed Murdock Newell Stakes over 1100m at Pukekohe) from 8 starts for NZ$114,300 earnings.
