US Gr1 Star Icon Project Retired To Stud
US Gr1-winning 4YO mare Icon Project (Empire Maker-La Gueriere, by Lord At War) has been retired to stud "because of a tendon injury" reported thoroughbredtimes.com. In her final start on August 30, Icon Project annihilated her rivals by 13.25-lengths in the Gr1 Personal Ensign Stakes (10 furlongs) at Saratoga in New York. Icon Project (a US$775,000 yearling at the 2006 Keeneland September Sale) retires with 4 wins (also including June's Gr3 New York Stakes over 9 furlongs at Belmont Park) & 4 placings (including July's Gr2 Delaware Handicap over 10 furlongs at Delaware Park & April's Gr2 La Prevoyante Handicap over 12 furlongs at Calder, plus 2008's UK Listed Aphrodite Stakes over 12 furlongs at Newmarket) from 11 starts for US$661,128 earnings.
