Sea The Stars To Aga Khan Gilltown Stud In Ireland
After “weeks of speculation”, the Tsui family announced 6-time Gr1-winning boom Irish-bred 3YO colt Sea The Stars (Cape Cross-Urban Sea, by Miswaki) “will enter stud at the Aga Khan's Gilltown Stud in County Kildare in Ireland” at a 1st-season fee of €85,000 (A$136,000) & “is likely to cover a 1st book of approximately 120 mares” reported racingpost.com. Ling Tsui (mother of Christopher Tsui in whose colours Sea The Stars raced) confirmed: “His Highness was kind enough to let us stand Sea The Stars at Gilltown while keeping ownership of him & we are most grateful.” The Aga Khan added: “Mrs Tsui & Christopher's decision is certainly one of the most important developments for my operation since I inherited it in 1960. This horse could also help develop relations to bring Chinese investment into the European bloodstock market.” He also announced that last year's Gr1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner & 2008 European Horse-Of-The-Year Zarkava (retired unbeaten at the end of last season, with 5 Gr1 triumphs) will be among the 1st book of mares served by Sea The Stars, noting: “In keeping with the motto of the Aga Khan Studs 'success breeds success' I look forward to the earliest opportunity to send my unbeaten champion Zarkava to Sea The Stars. I believe the last 2 Arc winners were made for each other both in terms of ability, temperament & conformation. The best needs to be bred to the best.” Sea The Stars (a half-brother to Gr1-winners Galileo, Black Sam Bellamy & My Typhoon) recorded 8 wins (including 2009’s Gr1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, Gr1 English Derby, Gr1 Irish Champion Stakes, Gr1 UK Juddmonte International, Gr1 English 2000 Guineas & Gr1 UK Coral-Eclipse Stakes, plus 2008's Irish Gr2 Beresford Stakes) from 9 starts for €4,605,248 (A$7.368m) earnings.
