South Africa Sire London News Dies Aged 17

In South Africa, London News “the hard-galloping chestnut who put South Africa on the world racing map with his spectacular win in the 1997 QEII Cup in Hong Kong” has died aged 17, reported goldcircle.co.za. London News (a successful stallion at Cheveley Stud in the Western Cape & in his last 3 years at Starston Stud in the Karoo) sired 170 winners of 360 races & covered mares until last week. On the track, he won 11 races (between 1400-2200m) including all South Africa’s majors (Dingaans, Durban July, J&B Met, Daily News & Queen’s Plate) & was named South African Horse-Of-The-Year in 1995-96 & 1996-97.
