1st Stakes-Winner For US Freshman Sire Purge

US Gr1-winning 8YO freshman stallion Purge (Pulpit-Copelan's Bid Gal, by Copelan) recorded his 1st stakes-winner when favoured 2YO colt Macias (Purge-Azelna, by Tropular) scored by a neck in the US$60,400 Listed Jack Goodman Stakes (6 furlongs on all-weather) for 2YOs at Santa Anita Park in California. Macias (ridden by Garrett Gomez for trainer Bob Baffert) defeated fellow colt Hurricane Ike (Graeme Hall-Parental Uproar, by Future Storm) & the ridgeling Privilaged (Southern Image-Hasty Appeal, by World Appeal). Macias (a US$170,000 yearling at the 2008 Keeneland September Sale) now has 2 wins & a placing from 3 starts for US$68,547 earnings. His sire Purge stands for US$12,500 at Tom Simon's Vinery Stud in Kentucky. On the track, Purge notched 6 wins (including the Gr1 Cigar Mile Handicap, Gr2 Jim Dandy Stakes & Gr2 Peter Pan Stakes) & 3 placings (including the Gr2 Meadowlands Breeders' Cup Stakes, Gr3 Philip Iselin Breeders' Cup Handicap & Listed Rebel Stakes) from 15 starts for US$905,434 earnings.
