Giant's Causeway Adds US Black-Type

Former Coolmore shuttler Giant's Causeway (Storm Cat-Mariah's Storm, by Rahy) added a US black-type success when 4YO mare Apple Martini (Giant's Causeway-Crafty Oak, by Crafty Prospector) scored a 0.75-length victory in the US$86,000 Listed Illini Princess Handicap (8.5 furlongs) for fillies & mares at Hawthorne. Apple Martini (ridden by Eusebio Razo for trainer Chris Block) defeated fellow 4YO mare Lakeaway (Greenwood Lake-Runaway Ridge, by Runaway Groom) & 6YO mare Labar (Bianconi-Another Jo, by Transworld). Apple Martini took her record to 5 wins (also including June's Listed Lincoln Heritage Handicap over 8.5 furlongs at Arlington Park, plus 2008's Listed Purple Violet Stakes over 8 furlongs at Arlington Park) & 10 placings (including January's Listed Leggio Memorial Handicap over 5.5 furlongs at Fair Grounds, plus 2008's Gr3 Arlington Oaks over 9 furlongs at Arlington Park, Listed Pago Hop Stakes over 8 furlongs at Fair Grounds & Listed Illini Princess Handicap over 8.5 furlongs at Hawthorne, as well as 2007's Listed Pat Whitworth Illinois Debutante Stakes over 8.5 furlongs at Hawthorne) from 27 starts for US$299,291 earnings.
