Headway Wins Gr1 Coolmore Stud Stakes
Gr1-winning Arrowfield Stud stallion Charge Forward (Red Ransom-Sydney's Dream, by Bletchingly) added a Gr1 triumph when daughter Headway (Charge Forward-Chatelaine, by Flying Spur) gained the judge's decision against the males in a 3-way photo-finish to the $500,000 Gr1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) for 3YOs at Flemington. Headway (ridden by Luke Nolen for trainer Peter Moody) snatched victory by a nose in the last stride over the gelding King Pulse (Canny Lad-Pleasure Ground, by Arena) with a further short-halfhead to the colt Shellscrape (Dane Shadow-Kisma, by Snippets). Headway (a $175,000 yearling consigned from Turangga Farm at the 2008 Inglis Easter Sale in Sydney) finished her 2YO season as top filly on the ANZ Classifications (with a rating of 107) & overall now has 4 wins (also including March's Gr3 Sweet Embrace Stakes over 1200m at Randwick & February's Listed Chairman's Stakes over 1100m at Caulfield) & 4 runners-up (including last start's Gr3 Thoroughbred Club Stakes over 1200m at Caulfield on October 10, plus August's Listed Quezette Stakes over 1100m at Caulfield & April's Gr1 Golden Slipper Stakes over 1200m at Rosehill Gardens) from 10 starts for $1,124,888 earnings.
