Monaco Consul Wins Gr1 Victoria Derby

NZ Windsor Park's Derby-winning Coolmore shuttler & 6-time Gr1 victor High Chaparral (Sadler's Wells-Kasora, by Darshaan) added a Gr1 triumph when his colt Monaco Consul (High Chaparral-Argante, by Star Way) notched his 2nd successive Gr1 victory in a month by powering home down the centre of the track for a 1-length win in the $1.5 million Gr1 Victoria Derby (2500m) for 3YOs before 108,178 fans at Flemington in Melbourne. Monaco Consul (ridden by Corey Brown for trainer Mike Moroney) defeated fellow colts Extra Zero (Danzero-Extra Bubbly, by Bellotto) & Viking Legend (Elvstroem-Innocent Baby, by Jugah). Monaco Consul (a NZ$100,000 yearling at the 2008 NZB Select Sale at Karaka) now has 3 wins (also including last start's Gr1 Inglis Spring Champion Stakes over 2000m at Randwick on October 3) & a runner-up from 6 starts for $1,101,355 earnings.
