Melb Cup 3: Flemington Track Update

Tuesday, 3rd November 2009

Track manager Mick Goodie declared yesterday the Flemington racetrack has come through Saturday's opening card of the 4-day Melbourne Cup Carnival "in perfect order". After walking the track early yesterday morning, Goodie reported: "The track is the same as it was on Friday afternoon - a Dead 5 with a great cover of grass on it. So I'm very happy with its condition." On Saturday, the track was upgraded from a Dead 5 to Dead 4 at 10am & then to a Good 3 at 1.35pm "in line with Racing Victoria policy as the warm weather took effect". The overall penetrometer at 2.30pm yesterday was 4.85, with the inside of the straight track 4.86 & the outside 4.85. Goodie noted 3mm of irrigation was applied on Sunday night, while 0.2mm of rain fell & "that takes to 28mm the amount of irrigation applied over the past week & 9.2mm the amount of rain that has fallen at Flemington". The rail was in the true position on Saturday, but has been moved out 2 metres for the entire circuit for today's Melbourne Cup meeting (which features 10 races from 10.20am).
