Wednesday, 4th November 2009

Darley shuttler & Gr1 Dubai World Cup winner Street Cry (Machiavellian-Helen Street, by Troy) added a Gr1 triumph (& 10th individual Gr1-winner) when 4YO entire Shocking (Street Cry-Maria Di Castiglia, by Danehill) powered down the centre of the track to score a 0.75-length victory in yesterday's $5.5 million Gr1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) in front of 102,161 fans at Flemington. Despite travelling 3-wide for most of the race, Shocking (ridden by Corey Brown for trainer Mark Kavanagh) defeated Godolphin's 7YO gelding Crime Scene (Royal Applause-Crime, by Gulch) & 6YO entire Mourilyan (Desert Prince-Mouramara, by Kahyasi). Shocking (a $45,000 yearling at the 2007 Magic Millions QTIS Sale on the Gold Coast & subsequently a $64,000 2YO at the 2007 Magic Millions Queensland Horses-In-Training Sale) now has 5 wins (also including his previous start in Saturday's Gr3 Lexus Stakes over 2500m at Flemington) & 7 placings (including both October's Gr3 David Jones Coongy Cup over 2000m at Caulfield & Gr2 Herbert Power Stakes over 2400m at Caulfield, plus September's Listed JRA Cup over 2040m at Moonee Valley & June's Gr1 Queensland Derby over 2400m at Eagle Farm) from 15 starts for $3,882,525 earnings.
