Strawberry Field Wins Herald-Sun Stakes

Wednesday, 4th November 2009

Coolmore's Australian champion sire of the last 2 seasons Encosta de Lago (Fairy King-Shoal Creek, by Star Way) added a black-type success when 4YO mare Strawberry Field (Encosta de Lago-Red Labelle, by Blevic) scored a half-length victory in yesterday's $150,000 Listed Herald-Sun Stakes (1400m) for mares 4YO & up at Flemington. Strawberry Field (ridden by Nicholas Hall for trainer John O'Shea) defeated top-weighted & favoured fellow 4YO mare Ortensia (Testa Rossa-Aerate's Pick, by Picnicker) & another 4YO mare Rose Syrah (Testa Rossa-Rose Between, by Kala Dancer). Strawberry Field (a $430,000 yearling consigned by Coolmore at the 2007 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale) took her record to 3 wins & 3 runners-up (including September's Listed Bacardi Nivison over 1200m at Randwick & 2008's Listed Keith Mackay Quality Handicap over 1200m at Randwick) from 11 starts for $184,300 earnings.
