World Record-Priced UK Filly Retired Without Racing
Also in the UK, 3YO filly Liffey Dancer (Sadler's Wells-Brigid, by Irish River) "who holds the record as the most expensive yearling filly sold at public auction, has been retired to the paddocks without ever having graced a racecourse," reported racingpost.com. Agent Charlie Gordon-Watson (acting for Craig Bennett, former finance director of mobile phone shop chain Phones4u) paid 2.5 million guineas (A$4.75m) for Liffey Dancer (a sister to Gr1-winners Listen & Sequoyah, the latter also the dam of 4-time Gr1-winner Henrythenavigator) at the 2007 UK Tattersalls October Sale. She was put into training with Luca Cumani & "had been expected to make her racing debut this year. She will now become the jewel in the crown of the broodmare band at Bennett's Merry Fox Stud breeding venture." Bennett's best horse on the flat is 2007 Gr1 Melbourne Cup runner-up Purple Moon.
