Faint Perfume Wins Gr1 Crown Oaks
European champion 4-time Gr1-winning Darley shuttler Shamardal (Giant's Causeway-Helsinki, by Machiavellian) added a Gr1 triumph when favoured daughter Faint Perfume (Shamardal-Zona, by Zabeel) notched her 2nd group success in 5 days with victory by a neck in yesterday’s $1 million Gr1 Crown Oaks (2500m) for 3YO fillies at Flemington in Melbourne. Faint Perfume (ridden by Michael Rodd for trainer Bart Cummings) defeated Valdemoro (Encosta De Lago-Hveger, by Danehill) & Savsbelle (Savabeel-Polly's Pocket, by Pirate's Bounty). Cummings won this race for the 9th time & notched his 257th Gr1 success, while Faint Perfume (passed-in for $40,000 & retained to race by Think Big Stud at the 2008 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale in Sydney) took her record to 3 wins (also including last Saturday’s Gr2 Salinger Stakes over 2000m at Flemington) & a placing (in October’s Gr1 Thousand Guineas over 1600m at Caulfield) from 7 starts for $865,590 earnings.
