Idyllic Prince Wins Lee Steere Stakes

Monday, 9th November 2009

Ill-fated former Durham Lodge stallion Scenic (Sadler's Wells-Idyllic, by Foolish Pleasure) added a group success when 7YO gelding Idyllic Prince (Scenic-Uma Princess, by Umatilla) made it 4 successive wins (& 2nd group success in a fortnight) with the judge’s decision in a 3-way photo-finish to the $200,000 weight-for-age Gr2 Lee Steere Stakes (1400m) at Ascot in Perth. Idyllic Prince (ridden by Jason Brown for trainer Jim Taylor) scored by a short-head from fellow 7YO gelding Tarzi (Desert Prince-Majestic, by Twig Moss) with a further short-neck to 5YO mare Spirited One (Verglas-Voodoo Belle, by Canny Lad). Idyllic Prince now has 13 wins (also including September's Listed Farnley Stakes over 1400m at Belmont Park & August's Listed Goodwood Sprint over 1300m at Belmont Park, plus 2008's Listed Goodwood Sprint over 1300m at Belmont, as well as 2007's Gr3 Prince Of Wales Stakes over 1200m at Ascot & 2006's Gr3 Asian Beau Stakes over 1400m at Ascot) & 10 placings (including 2008's Gr3 Prince Of Wales Stakes over 1200m at Ascot, Listed Ruabon Stakes over 1200m at Belmont & Listed Farnley Stakes over 1400m at Belmont, plus 2007's Listed Grandstand Cup over 1400m at Belmont) from 36 starts for $729,300 earnings.
