Informed Decision Wins US Gr1 Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint

George Strawbridge's 4YO mare Informed Decision (Monarchos-Palangana, by His Majesty) scored a 1.25-lengths victory in the US$1 million Gr1 Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (7 furlongs on all-weather) for fillies & mares at Santa Anita. Ultra-consistent Informed Decision (ridden by Julien Leparoux for trainer Jonathan Sheppard) defeated favoured 5YO mare Ventura (Chester House-Estala, by Be My Guest) who won this race last year & front-running fellow 4YO mare Free Flying Soul (Quiet American-Ruby Surprise, by Farma Way). Kentucky-bred Informed Decision (a US$150,000 yearling at the 2006 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky July Sale & then a US$320,000 2YO at the 2007 Fasig-Tipton Maryland May Sale) took her record to 11 wins (also including October’s Gr2 Thoroughbred Club Of American Stakes over 6 furlongs at Keeneland, September’s Gr3 Presque Isle Downs Masters Stakes over 6 furlongs, July’s Gr3 Chicago Breeders’ Cup Handicap over 7 furlongs at Arlington Park, May’s Gr1 Humana Distaff over 7 furlongs at Churchill Downs & April’s Gr1 Vinery Madison Stakes over 7 furlongs at Keeneland, plus 2008’s Gr2 Raven Run Stakes over 7 furlongs at Keeneland & Listed Missile Belle Stakes over 7 furlongs at Belmont Park) & 2 placings (in August’s Gr1 Ballerina Stakes over 7 furlongs at Saratoga & 2008’s Gr3 Victory Ride Stakes over 6 furlongs at Saratoga) from 14 starts for US$1,771,617 earnings.
